From losing their 1st Premier League match to bouncing back and dominating the league, Arsenal have defied the odds this season. Despite this past difficult week we had with tough games against Everton, Napoli and Manchester City we can still be proud. We managed to draw against an Everton team that seemed to be on the verge of beating us due to their impressive display. If this was previous season's we would've lose the game. Naples wasn't easy either, the players looked tired but did enough to secure a place in the last 16, job done. At the Etihad stadium, offsides (which were detable), penalty appeal overlooked and a few bad defensive decisions cost us all three points.
Where do we go from here? Do we panic because we play Chelsea next? Chelsea a team we haven't beaten for a while? Chelsea a team just two points behind us and are relishing the chance to beat us in order to go top. Chelsea a team we haven't beaten whilst Mourinho was in charge of them? The answer is no because we are The Arsenal. I believe the 9 days rest will do us good. Olivier Giroud is good, he's definitely improved and has a lot to offer but fatigue has kicked in of late. The back four have been solid despite the recent three games. Wenger should look to play Vermaelen a bit more in games such as West Ham away (soon). Whether Koscielny is fit or not, we need rotation during the Christmas/new year period so the lads last longer on top.
The mid field is blessed with many top players who can rotate all the time. Arteta should start against Chelsea, giving Flamini a rest. Podolski will be on the bench against Chelsea, giving us more options. Santi was rested and will be fresh for Chelsea. Many options to choose from which has been our success this season. I'd like to see Tomás Rosicky start more though because his work rate and creativity is of a high level. Beat Chelsea and we're definitely looking at entering the New year on top. We need to keep the pressure on others and maintain top spot. If the lads play for top as they played for 4th (all these recent seasons) then there's no reason we'll win the Premier League comfortably. We need to be top until January and then hopefully Arsene will open his cheque book again. I highly fancy Alexandre Pato, he's young (24), pacy, skillful and a very good finisher. He's what we need with such a world class defence and good competition for Giroud. On top of that, Pato won't be cup tied for the Champions League fixture against holders Bayern Munich. Another i'd like to see is Yann M'villa. We've been linked before with him but after the display against Manchester City where Yaya Toure out muscled our defence, we need him desperately. Yann is tall and strong, should cope with the difficulty of players such as Yaya Toure. Arteta and Flamini are great holding midfielders but they don't possess that physical strength that Alex Song had and we're lacking that.
If we look at these two additions, we could have an Arsenal team fighting for all three trophies (FA cup, Champions League and the Premier League) seriously. We will fight even if we don't sign these players but I think it's vital we add them or definitely another striker, just to ensure or as you like cushion that top spot come May. We've waited long enough and I feel after the signing of German whizz Mesut Özil we deserve a trophy this season. A trophy will open the doorss for another big name we should definitely look at, Julian Draxler. Monday the 23rd of December will define our season and set us on course for the busy festive period. Let's stick together and continue giving our support to the great North London team, Arsenal Football Club.
