To try and show the impact that ticket price rises have had on Arsenal's revenue, I've used the price for a ticket in the East Stand of the Emirates Stadium for the past 7 years, from the data collected by the Arsenal History website. I've used this to try and work out what ticket prices increases actually do to match day revenue and whether they make a significant difference. From the data we can try and work out how much revenue Arsenal will make from the price increases in the season from all the Premier league home games; taking into account the change in average attendance and the change in price in the average ticket price for the East Stand. Although this only takes into account the price of one ticket in one stand it gives a rough estimate.
Calculated by Average Premier League attendance X the price of a ticket in the East Stand X 19 (the amount of home Premier League games in a season).
Will ticket price increases make a difference to transfer activity?
For this we will look at the latest price increase, which has been the increase from the season 13-14 to the new season 14-15. Which sees a £1.33 price increase in each average ticket; this means the increase in match day revenue for just the Premier league home games is £1.6M; this is if average attendance stays the same as last season.
As the original question asks, will this make a difference to transfer activity? As you know there are't many players that would make it into the Arsenal first team that cost £1.6M. However it will make a small difference in terms of wages; you can look at this from two different angles. Chamakh who has just left the club was on £60,000 a week this increase in ticket prices could afford 22 weeks wages for him, whereas this could also afford 8 weeks of Ozil’s wages (£120,000).
