It was common knowledge that the German International might be leaving Arsenal in the Summer transfer window. Podolski has revealed he had a conversation with Arsene Wenger about leaving the club; However with Lucas not wanting to play for any other Bundesliga club (other than Cologne), it meant he ended up staying in North London.
With the injury to Oliver Giroud, Wenger changed his mind about letting the German leave. Speaking to Bild today, Podolski said, “I had a very good conversation with manager Arsene Wenger. He stressed that he relies on me and my qualities.”
Podolski talked in the interview about how there was rumoured interest from German club Wolfsburg and although he didn't rule out a move to a different German club, he made it clear that Wolfsburg wouldn't have been his first choice.
“There weren't a lack of offers. There were some requests from abroad (outside Germany), and also from the Bundesliga. But it would have been difficult for me as a FC Cologne fan to play for another club in Germany.”
